Oh Danny Boy by Frederick Weatherly 1910

Version 1

I wasn’t really happy with this version, so I’ve done another one and one I think our special Danny Boy would like.

Version 2

Well, I’ve now done version 3 and here is the reason why. After a bit more research, I find that the song wasn’t written in 1855 but in 1910. An English man wrote it, and after hearing the beautiful Irish tune, ‘Derry Air,’ the piece, ‘Oh Danny Boy’ was created. It was first released in 1913. Just before the First World War.

In 1918, at the end of the First World War, a written manuscript of, ‘Oh Danny Boy’ and signed by the lyricist Frederick Weatherly had changes added. The words ‘Oh Danny Boy’ was replaced with ‘Oh Eily Dear,’ with the instruction, ‘When sung by a man.’ This is such a lovely and moving song, and I think this change just completes it and makes it a song for all! Hope you enjoy it!?

Version 3 Oh Eily Dear

Any Comments are welcome. I’m up for a challenge, so if you have a song you would like me to try, then let me know?
